A Missional Community

Living out our faith means participating in God’s mission of bringing healing, hope and renewal into a hurting world.

We approach mission holistically – addressing physical, spiritual, social and psychological needs – at three levels:

Local:
Being a ‘community’ church means serving our local community in Jesus’ name. As a church, we seek to be a redemptive community on the North Shore, demonstrating God’s love to those around us. Two of the main ways we serve our local community are:
  • Servetember: Each year we engage in at least one practical project in Albany that helps to address some of the needs in our locality. Click here for the Servetember website.
  • 24-7 Youthwork: Shore Community Church and Albany Junior High School jointly fund a part-time youth-worker, Joel Hindriksen, in the school. He is involved in leadership development and mentoring of students, helping with school events such as camps, involvement in student activities, and helping to raise school spirit. This is presence-based youth work that makes a positive difference in the lives of young people. 24-7 Youthwork is run through a charitable trust overseen by Shore—Shore Community Trust.
We also seek to help people in our relational networks on their own spiritual journeys. We run a course called Introducing God to give an overview of the Christian story for those interested in knowing more about following Jesus. For more information on when this course is next running, contact Carl Becker – carl@shore.org.nz

National:
As a church, we financially support several people involved in vocational mission work in New Zealand. Currently we are supporting:
International:
We are currently supporting a project called Vanuatu Community Trust, an organisation working with a local church in Tanna, Vanuatu, to reach out to the villages in its locality. They will be starting an aid and development organisation called Nasi Tuan. Nasi Tuan seeks to empower local communities through seeking sustainable solutions that utilise local resources and expertise.

This project began in 2009 and is in the early stages of its development. It is being led by Maxine and Andrew Finlay, who are based in Vanuatu for a year since June 2010. You can follow their progress on their blog at http://vanuatucommunitytrust.blogspot.com

We also contribute funds toward international needs such as disaster relief and poverty-alleviation projects.
